History
The MICB was established in 1976 when our building (formerly a church) was bought by the local community to facilitate the growing needs of the increasing number of Muslims in the area.

Due to the architecture of the church, renovations and refurbishments were carried out over time to the exterior and the interior of the building to adapt it to a Mosque whilst retaining its existing structure. In 2005 major works and restorations took place. Noticeable restorations include the spire being changed into a Minaret with green domes and major refurbishment works to the interior. Once the works were completed, an official opening ceremony to mark the ‘new look’ of the Mosque which was carried out by the Honourable Lord Nazir Ahmed of Rotherham.

Facilities

Kitchen
The mosque has a kitchen which is used for food preparation. The kitchen is used by mosque staff and for catering for guests. It is also made available to individuals or groups hosting functions, weddings etc. For such occasions, the use of the kitchen must be booked in advance.

Ablution Areas (Washrooms)
The mosque provides three areas for worshippers to make ablutions before prayers. Ablution is the act of preparation and self-cleanliness carried out before Muslims stand in prayer and obedience before the Almighty.
There are two wash areas for male worshippers and one wash area for female worshippers, both of which are completely equipped with basins, toilets, tools and wash taps and relevant toiletries. Hygiene, cleanliness, and sanitation are maintained throughout our wash areas accordingly.

Ladies Hall
MICB provides a hall and washing facilities for female members of the public. Females are encouraged to come to the Mosque and be a part of the congregations and listen to the sermons, talks and events that are held.

Community Hall in the basement
This is used for events, sports activities, catering, meetings and presentations. If you would like to book this hall, please contact the management as this has to be booked in advance.

Capacity and the building

The interior of the mosque comprises of:

  • a large main hall;
  • a smaller hall which is used for the 5 daily prayers;
  • a gallery overlooking the main hall;
  • a ladies hall; and
  • a basement (used for events, sports activities and catering).

On special days like Friday prayers (jumu’ah salah) the MICB has the capacity to cater for 2000+ worshippers. On Eid days, the MICB caters for 5000+ individuals whereby Eid prayers are convened at four different timings in the morning.
